There is something so special about in home newborn sessions, especially in those first days of bringing a new baby home. This sweet session took place in St. Cloud, Minnesota with a family of four as they welcomed their newest little girl. Being able to document these early moments in the comfort of home always makes sessions feel extra relaxed and meaningful.
We started the session in the girls’ room, capturing a few photos in front of the crib. Big sister was so gentle and sweet with her new baby sister. She loved holding her hand, snuggling in close with mom and dad, and just being near her. It was such a calm and cozy start to the session.

While mom stepped away for a quick diaper change, I spent some time with big sister. We read her “I Am a Big Sister” book together, which was such a sweet little moment to capture. After that, she showed me her globe and we talked about all the places we would want to travel someday while she spun it around.
I always love taking a little time to connect with kids during sessions like this. It helps them feel comfortable and turns the experience into something fun rather than something they have to sit through. My goal is for it to feel like I’m just another friend hanging out with your family.

After that, we checked back in with mom and baby and captured some really beautiful, quiet moments between the two of them. These are always some of my favorite images, just slowing things down and focusing on that connection.

Big sister joined in shortly after, and we captured a few sweet moments of the three of them together. It felt like such a special mom and daughters moment.

We then moved into mom and dad’s bedroom, where everyone snuggled in together. These are the kinds of moments that really tell the story of this season. Cozy, close, and just soaking in their new baby.

After that, I focused on just the two girls together. Big sister loved gently tapping baby’s nose, looking at her tiny features, and giving her little kisses. Baby was so content just looking up at her and taking everything in.
During a quick snack break for mom and big sister, I captured a few photos of dad with the baby. Of course, big sister popped back in for a few quick photos with dad and his girls.

My favorite part of this session was all of the little, in between moments. Big sister was completely in love with her baby sister. The way she looked at her hands and feet, gave her kisses, and stayed close to her was just so special to witness.
These are the moments that go by so quickly, and it’s such an honor to be able to capture them in a way families can look back on forever.
