There is just something about fall in Minnesota that makes family photos feel extra special. As a St. Cloud MN family photographer, I absolutely love capturing families surrounded by golden leaves, warm evening sunlight, and beautiful autumn colors. Fall is one of my favorite seasons for creating natural, timeless portraits that families can treasure for years to come.

This fall family session was filled with everything I love about photographing families. Beautiful autumn scenery, genuine smiles, and those little in-between moments that often end up being some of my favorite images.

A Beautiful Fall Evening in Central Minnesota

One of my favorite things about being a family photographer in Central Minnesota is getting to take advantage of the changing seasons. Fall is especially beautiful, with golden trees, soft grasses, and warm sunlight creating the prettiest natural backdrops.

For this session, the gorgeous yellow and orange foliage added so much warmth to the images. I also loved how beautifully everyone’s outfits complemented the scenery without being overly coordinated.

Capturing Each Personality

While I always make sure to capture those classic family portraits, I also love taking time to photograph everyone individually.

These portraits are such a wonderful way to document each child’s personality and this particular season of life. It’s amazing how quickly kids grow and change, and I think having those individual photographs is just as meaningful as having photos of the whole family together.

The Little Moments That Mean the Most

Some of my favorite images from this session are the ones that happened when everyone was simply interacting with each other.

Walking together, laughing, cuddling, and enjoying a beautiful fall evening. Those natural moments are such an important part of my approach to family photography.

I also love including different family combinations throughout a session, whether that’s siblings together, parents with their children, or a few portraits of mom and dad.

And of course, I always love when the family pets get to join in, too!

Why I Love Fall Family Photography in Central Minnesota

Fall is easily one of my favorite times of year for family photography in Central Minnesota. Between the beautiful golden leaves, warm evening sunlight, and rich autumn colors, there’s something so magical about this season. As a St. Cloud MN family photographer, I love how the natural beauty of fall creates the perfect backdrop without needing much else. Some of my favorite moments happen when families are simply enjoying their time together, whether that’s walking hand in hand, snuggling up close, or letting the kids run around and explore. Those genuine interactions, combined with the beautiful fall scenery, are what make these sessions so special to me. I always want families to look back at their photos and remember not just how everything looked, but how it felt to be together in that moment.

For fall sessions, I absolutely love warm, earthy tones, soft neutrals, and outfits that complement one another without being overly matching. Think cozy sweaters, flowy dresses, textured fabrics, and colors that look beautiful against Minnesota’s golden autumn leaves.
