One of my favorite things about engagement sessions in Central Minnesota is how much variety we can fit into a single evening. This summer engagement session included everything from wooded trails and lakeside views to open fields during golden hour, and every part of the session felt relaxed, natural, and completely true to them.
The two of them were so easygoing together, which made the entire session feel less like posing for photos and more like simply spending time together. Those are always the moments that end up creating the most meaningful images.

We started the session along a quiet wooded trail surrounded by tall trees and soft evening light filtering through the branches. The darker tones in their outfits paired perfectly with the greens of the trees and gave this part of the session such a cozy summer feel.
Some of my favorite photos from the evening happened here because everything felt so natural and relaxed. They spent most of this part of the session laughing together, walking through the trail, and simply enjoying the evening without overthinking anything.

After spending some time in the woods, we headed closer to the water for lakeside engagement photos as the sun started getting lower. The shoreline and old canoe added such a classic Minnesota feel to the session while still keeping everything simple and natural.
The calm water and softer evening light made this part of the session feel especially peaceful. I always love incorporating lakes into engagement sessions because it adds movement, reflection, and a more relaxed atmosphere to the gallery.

As sunset approached, we finished the session in an open field during golden hour. This part of the evening had some of the warmest light and created such a romantic atmosphere for the final photos.
The second outfit change worked perfectly with the golden field and sunset tones, and the entire session started to feel even more relaxed as the night went on. Some of my favorite images from the evening came from these last few minutes together in the field while the sun disappeared behind the trees.

After the golden hour portraits, they ended the session in the most relaxed way, sharing a beer together as the sun went down. It was such a fun, personal way to wrap up the evening and added a little bit of their real personality into the gallery.
Those simple, true-to-them moments are always some of my favorites because they make the session feel less posed and more like an actual memory.
